  • Trex RainEscape is a deck waterproofing and drainage solution.

  • It creates a dry, usable space underneath the deck.

  • Allows for soffit ceiling and pot lights under your deck.

Trex RainEscape is a revolutionary under-deck drainage solution that prevents rain, spills, and snowmelt from seeping through your decking boards, resulting in a dry and usable space below. The system consists of troughs and gutters placed above the decking sub-structure and underneath the decking, effectively shielding both the sub-structure and framing from the elements and increasing the longevity of your deck. Not only does it create a waterproof deck, but it also transforms the area below into an indoor-like environment where you can safely install ceiling fans, speakers, electronics, and furniture.

How Does Trex Rain Escape Work

Trex Rain Escape Drainage System Diagram

Cross section showing how Trex® RainEscape® directs water away from under your deck.

  • A series of troughs and downspouts collect and direct water from the top of the deck.

  • Water is directed to a gutter and carried to a desired drainage location.

The Trex RainEscape drainage system is comprised of several components, all working together to keep the area under your deck dry and protected from the elements. It’s installed once the framing and sub-structure are complete, and before the decking is installed.

First, downspouts are installed between all joist bays, typically at the far end of the deck. Then, a series of troughs are installed on a gradual slope between each of the joist bays, directing water to the downspouts. Finally, an aluminum or plastic eavestrough is installed underneath the downspouts, collecting, and directing all run-off to a desired drain location.

Water-proof Butyl tape and caulking are utilized along all seams and fastener locations to ensure a 100% water-tight seal. Flashing is also installed at the connection point to the building, ensuring water doesn’t seep behind the ledger board, and drip down or into the wall.

How Much Does Trex RainEscape Cost?

The cost of Trex RainEscape varies depending on the size and complexity of your deck. The cost of materials, as well as installation needs to be considered. For an average-sized 12’x20’ rectangular deck (240sqft), customers can expect to spend approximately CAD $10,000 for Trex RainEscape installed in Southern Ontario, and the GTA.

Because every deck is different, it’s impossible to say exactly how much a Trex RainEscape system will cost you. If you would like a free, accurate quote for a Trex RainEscape deck, we are here to help! Simply send us a message or give us a call to set up your free, no-hassle consultation.

Can Trex RainEscape be Installed on Wood Decks?

Trex RainEscape is designed to be installed only with Trex composite decking. Although it is possible to install Trex RainEscape underneath wood decking, we don’t recommend it. One of the main reasons for this is the difference between fasteners used with pressure-treated decking and Trex composite decking. Trex Hideaway fasteners are designed to create a watertight seal when passing through the provided Butyl tape and trough system. Fasteners for pressure-treated wood deck boards will not produce the same watertight seal.

Is Trex RainEscape Worth It?

Trex RainEscape is one of the best ways to waterproof your deck, providing a dry, useable space below. But only you can decide if the benefits outweigh the costs. If your outdoor space is important to you, then we think it’s one of the best ways to maximize its use, no matter the weather. Even in the rain, you’ll be able to enjoy your beautiful outdoor space, from the dry comforted protection of your waterproofed deck!

Trex RainEscape also allows you to take the design of your outdoor space to new levels! Because the area under your deck is 100% waterproof, you’ll be able to install virtually any fixtures or appliances you’d like! Things like soffit ceilings, pot lighting, fans, heaters, outdoor kitchens, furniture, and entertainment centers all become possible thanks to the Trex RainEscape system.
